SikaMultiSeal® 515
Self-Adhered Transition Seam Tape

Description

SikaMultiSeal 515 is a 40 mil thick self-adhering seam tape consisting of a synthetic butyl rubber compound protected by a silicone release paper on a polyester facer. The membrane is specifically designed for use to treat joints between sheathing boards, dissimilar materials, door and window openings and corner details for above grade wall assemblies.

Where to Use

To be used in conjunction with Sikagard® 510 Transition Seam Tape Primer, and Sikagard 530 Liquid Applied Vapor Permeable Air Barrier Membrane. Acceptable applications are above grade exterior wall substrates including precast concrete, cast-in place concrete, concrete block, primed steel, aluminum mill finish, anodized aluminum, galvanized metal, gypsum board and wood.

Advantages

  • Impermeable to air, moisture vapor and water.
  • Flexible at low temperatures.
  • Excellent adhesion to prepared substrates.
  • Excellent compatibility with Sika adhesives, liquid air barrier membranes and sealants.
  • Membrane is self-sealing when penetrated by screw fasteners.

Coverage

Apply at a rate of 100 sf per gallon to achieve a uniform wet film thickness of 16 mils.

How to Use

Surface Preparation

Substrate surfaces to be covered with SikaMultiSeal 515 Self-Adhered Transition Seam Tape must be primed with Sikagard 510 Transition Seam Tape Primer. Acceptable substrates are precast concrete, cast-in place concrete, concrete block, primed steel, aluminum mill finish, anodized aluminum, galvanized metal, gypsum board and wood. Substrates shall be sound, clean, dry and free of frost, dirt, dust, loose concrete, grease, oil, contaminants or other foreign matter that may adversely affect membrane adhesion. Avoid irregular or uneven surfaces that may cause the membrane to “tent”. Mechanical fasteners used to secure sheathing boards or penetrate sheathing boards prior to membrane application shall be set flush with sheathing board and fastened into solid backing. New concrete should be cured for a minimum of 14 days before SikaMultiSeal 515 Self-Adhered Transition Seam Tape is applied.

Application

Cut SikaMultiSeal® 515 Self-Adhered Transition Seam Tape into lengths that can be easily handled. Center the seam tape over prepared joint areas to be sealed, remove approximately 12 inches (300 mm) of the release paper and place the tape over the joint. Apply sufficient hand pressure to ensure contact and systematically remove release film as the tape is applied onto the substrate. Firmly roll SikaMultiSeal® 515 Self-Adhered Transition Seam Tape using a hard roller against the substrate surface to ensure full adhesion. Contractor is responsible to check adhesion of membrane to substrate and suitability of applications. Provide minimum of 4 inches (100 mm) end laps.Overlap requires priming. Install transition seam tape in overlapping shingle method, horizontal joints should overlap vertical joints.

Removal

Remove excess product and place in suitable container. Dispose of excess product and container in accordance with environmental regulations.
